From cross-country itineraries in rolling hills to single-track descents with a scattering of medieval châteaux, go on an exploration of the Pyrenees.

From the gîte at Roquefixade, a pretty village in the foothills of the Pyrenees to the gîte at Ascou located in the heart of the Ax valleys, you'll roll along trails marked by the history of Catharism. The pleasures of navigating single tracks or speeding through forest trails -- at each turn of the pedal Ariège reveals its superb landscapes.
A highlight is the famous descent from 1500m in Andorra.

Day 1 : ROQUEFIXADE- FOIX and return to ROQUEFIXADE (Cathar Trail)
33km. Elevation change : 900m
Settling into gîte d’étape (hostel).
We climb in the direction of the château de Roquefixade then follow the famous Cathar Trail along pleasant tracks. We stay on the ridge along the scrubby Plantaurel foothills then attack the superb single track at 400m until Foix. A pretty view over the château and then we're off again towards Roquefixade.
Overnight in the gîte d'étape at Roquefixade.


Day 2 : THE PAYS D'OLMES TRAIL. 30 km. Elevation change : 900m
A morning workout with a long descent through the woods. We pass through the charming villages of the Pays d'Olmes along rolling tracks then reach the gorges of Péreille where the vultures observe us.
Last climb to reach the terrace of the gîte, the reward after a beautiful day.

Day 3 : DAY OF DESCENT FROM THE PLATEAU DE BEILLE 20km. Elevation change : +120m
–1350m
Secret and engaging descent in leaving behind the high prairies with a splendid 360° panorama. We attack the slope via a lovely beech forest. Fun, technical descent with little coombs covered with beech leaves. A real free-ride.

Day 4 : MONTSEGUR-ASCOU (Chemin des bonshommes). 33km. Elevation change : +1300m
-1200m
Transfer in the morning to Montségur.
We leave Ariège to explore the plateau of Sault via the superb gorges of La Frau. After an easy crossing of the plateau, we climb to the Col de Balagués (1669m): a grandiose panorama over the mountains of the high Ariège.
Then only happiness at the end of the day with a single-track descent of 500m
Settle in to the gîte d'étape at Ascou.

Day 5 : DAY OF DESCENT AT AX 3 DOMAINES. 18Km. Elevation change: +600m -1300m (or descent only thanks to cable cars operating in July and August )
Transfer in the morning to the plateau of Bonascre at 1400m elevation.
Final effort of the trip along a forest track to reach the Saquet at 2000m. Then we finish the circuit with a wild descent to Ax-les-Thermes, 1300m of elevation change to savour or for speed lovers to devour.
Overnight in the gîte d'étape at Ascou.

Day 6 : DAY OF DESCENT IN ANDORRA. 22Km. Elevation change: +100m -1500m
Transfer to Andorra in the morning, with time for shopping at Pas de la Casa.
Then the vehicle takes us to the port d'Envalira at 2550m.
Then we're off for a superb descent into France through extraordinatry mountain landscapes. Arrive at Mérens and transfer to Roquefixade where the group disperses.
