The mountain guides of La Rébenne are passionate about their work. Walk in Romanesque High Ariège

Trip of 7 days, 6 nights with 6 days of walking

During this walk you’ll roam through mountains and forests while exploring the romanesque art of Ariège. Each day will reveal exceptional countryside, with its villages clinging to the mountainsides, and a little-known romanesque art treasure.
Before the sober beauty of these edifices you’ll enter into the lives of mountain people of the first millenium.
Travel to the rythm of your steps while seeking to understand the mysteries of yesterday and today ; each person will make his own voyage of discovery during this sojourn in Ariège.

Program

Day 1 : Reception at Mercus-Garrabet. Start off on the « route des Corniches » to arrive at Arnave with its exceptional site.

Day 2 : After a short transfer, discover the pleasures of the forest with a walk always full of surprises, notably the little village of Verdun and its romanesque chapel.

Day 3 : Peaceful strolls between perched villages ( Lordat, Vernaux …) and romanesque chapels. Eagle show at the château de Lordat (not included).

Day 4 : Discover the sumptuous panormas from the plateau du Chioula and spend the night in a mountain refuge. The immense beauty of the site inspires silent wonder.

Day 5 : Downhill stage to the Ax valleys via the villages of Sorgeat, Ascou and Orgeix… magical places inviting rest and contemplation.

Day 6 : Uphill climb through the forest on the edge of the national reserve of Orlu. View over the first Andorran peaks and explore the hot springs of Mérens.

Day 7 : Return to Foix by train (included in the price), or relax at the thermal spa at Ax-les-Thermes (optional) then return to Fox by train.
