From the volcanic lands of Aubrac to the mediterranean scents of the villages of Herault, the Route of St Guilhem is an ancient, commercial and migratory route. Along the length of the route you will encounter an amazing array of landscapes: volcanic plateaus, the Causse de Sauveterre*, the Tarn Gorges, the Massif de l’Aigoual and its forest vegetation, the Causse de Blandas, the impressive Cirque de Navacelles and the Plateau du Larzac, before reaching the end of the route in the charming village of Saint Guilhem le Désert.Historically, this route allowed Auvergnats to reach the Gellone Abbey, before &nbsp;later becoming a commercial route.Hiking the Route of Saint-Guilhem is like stepping back in time.

From Aumont-Aubrac, you set off on an adventure along the first part of the Chemin de St Guilhem, following in the footsteps of the ancient pilgrims who wished to reach the abbey of Gellone, located at St Guilhem le Désert in the Hérault. This 6-day walk takes you through the volcanic soil of Aubrac, then over the Causse de Sauveterre after a stopover at La Canourgue. Taking a variant of the GR6, our route takes you through the magnificent gorges of the Tarn, before climbing the famous Causse Méjean and reaching Meyrueis, a former centre of local commerce.These 6 days of walking on the first part of the Chemin de St Guilhem, in the heart of the Massif Central and with balanced mileage, will satisfy your desire for escapism and discovery.&nbsp; &nbsp;

1st part : from Aumont-Aubrac to Meyrueis, throught the Tarn Gorges

From Aumont-Aubrac, you set off on the first part of the Chemin de St Guilhem, in the footsteps of the ancient pilgrims who wished to reach St Guilhem le Désert, in the Hérault. The 6-day walk takes you through the volcanic lands of Aubrac, then over the Causse de Sauveterre after a stopover at La Canourgue.

From Meyrueis, in the Jonte gorges, you take the second part of the famous Chemin de St Guilhem itinerary. You'll pass through the Mont-Aigoual forest massif, stopping off at its foot in the village of L'Espérou. The diversity of landscapes continues as you pass through the Causse de Blandas, just before reaching the beautiful Cirque de Navacelles and then the Larzac plateau. The route ends in the beautiful village of St Guilhem le Désert, where you can admire the Abbey of Gellone, an ancient place of pilgrimage.5 days of walking at your own pace, with no stages exceeding 22km, in the footsteps of the ancient pilgrims, from the Jonte gorges to the Hérault valley. &nbsp;

From Meyrueis, take the second part of the Chemin de St Guilhem. You'll pass Mont-Aigoual, with the village of L'Espérou at its foot. Then it's on to the Causse de Blandas, the Cirque de Navacelles, the Larzac plateau and the beautiful village of St Guilhem le Désert.
